The
charming studio/gallery The Tin Moon nestles snugly at the entrance to historic
Abiquiu pueblo, just below the Georgia OKeeffe House, in Northern New
Mexico.
Since 1998 its been the in-town hub of the Abiquiu art world, showing
local artists, artists from elsewhere in the U.S.A. who often spend time in
and around Abiquiu, and European artist-friends. The Tin Moon also publishes
handmade poetry books.
While living in The Hague I organized exhibitions of contemporary art and poetry festivals. In 1994 my husband Ton Haak, a writer, and I left the Netherlands to travel throughout the American West. Four years later we found Abiquiu, New Mexico, and knew we had arrived at our new home. Soon I began studying traditional New Mexican tinwork. I became an active member of the Abiquiu Studio Tour and the owner of the Tin Moon Studio/Gallery, representing twenty artists. My style of tinwork is quite distinctive; it is strongly influenced by European modern art and universal contemporary design. My handmade designs now find a good home all over the world.
